The Cupola: Day 2

What's good Gould Academy? Today marks the celebratory second day of the new student run blog; The Cupola. My partner and I  have been discussing the kinds of things we want to be able to share with you all, and we've managed to narrow our general purpose down into two groups, blogPAC will be handling multimedia information, i.e. videos, music, photography etc. and I will be handling more literary devices such as written poetry, stories, and interesting current event information. This is where you guys come in. Suggesting topics, submitting work, and inspiring us as the writers, is all in the hands of YOU.

As for today, I thought I would throw out an "inspirational" quote to you. Edward Lytton, a famous playwright and poet from England (of whom I have never heard of until now) once wrote,

To find what you seek in the road of life,
the best proverb of all is that which says:
"Leave no stone unturned."

I find this quote really interesting because it applies perfectly to life here at Gould. Whether we want to believe it or not, Gould provides opportunities to all of us that very few people will ever be exposed to. We're six miles from the some of the best skiing in New England and have art studios that most college experiences can't provide, like blacksmithing, silversmithing, and pottery. The four-point program with no added tuition to cover the cost, and weekend trips to experience parts of Maine that would be left unnoticed to most out of state students otherwise. I'd be lying if I said that I never sat in my room on a weekend and complained about having nothing to do, but having nothing to do was no ones fault but mine. Take a trip to do something you never have, whether you feel like you have an interest in it or not, and if you find yourself in a situation where you're sitting around complaining; get up and advocate for yourself. Find a faculty member and make a suggestion towards doing something. The faculty on weekend planning can't read minds, and if no one stands up and shares an idea, than you're leaving that stone unturned. You're missing out on the potential to experience something new, something that you may discover to love. I leave you with this; turn over a stone this weekend and INVESTIGATE SOMETHING NEW.
